Reynard the Fox

When Reynard was sighted he faced Tobermore,
Arklow and Wicklow along the sea-shore,
They kept his brush in view every yard of the way,
And then he ran his horse right over to Bray.

Chorus

But Reynard, sly Reynard, they hid there that night,
And they swore that they'd watch him until the day-light,
And early next morning the hills did resound,
To the echo of the horn and the cry of the hound.

Chorus

When Reynard was taken his wishes to fulfil,
He sent for ink and paper and a pen to write his will,
And that there that was written, oh, it was no blank,
For he'd left them all a cheque on the National Bank.

Chorus

To you, Johnny Green, I will leave my whole estate,
And to you, Michael Farrell, my money and my plate,
To you, Dan Clancy, my whip, spurs and cap,
For you rode right in front and never looked for the gap.
