Record Depositories In Northern Ireland continued...The Linenhall LibraryNineteen prominent citizens established the Linenhall Library (or The Belfast Library Society for Promoting Knowledge) in 1788. Today, the library holds over 200,000 volumes of books and pamphlets, many of which relate to Irish history. A large part of this collection is of value to the family historian, particularly the histories of individual families. The library also has an extensive newspaper collection.

Although the two organisations were separated in 1988, the Foundation continued to provide a genealogical searching service and it continues to publish books of genealogical and historical interest. Since 1966, for example, the Foundation has published over twenty volumes in its gravestone inscription series and a number of significant historical books.
