Aberdeen Lodge

Aberdeen Lodge is a substantial, brick built Edwardian house in an elegant residential area, easily accessible both to the centre of Dublin and Dun Laoghaire. Considerable renovation work has been done here over he years and a lot of the original features have been saved, such as the ceiling work and fireplaces. The décor is elegant and tasteful and it is nicely furnished.

All bedrooms have a hairdryer, telephone, trouser press and TV The drawing room and dining room are comfortable, pleasant rooms, and a ‘drawing room ’menu is available offering light snacks and wines to residents in the afternoons and evenings. The house has a large garden, beyond which is the cricket ground, and it is peaceful and quiet.

There is off-street car parking in front of the house. No pets. Some bedrooms are designated for smokers. Major credit cards accepted. Central Dublin can be reached in a few minutes on the DART railway.

Or maybe you'll opt for the large Georgian mansion just beyond an iron gateway in Ballymote, County Sligo. Maybe you'll stay in one of the other 400 or so accommodations in this revised and expanded version of the book (Bed and Breakfast Ireland) that first hit the United States in 1991. Only an occasional line drawing interrupts the text; and in the back of the 319 page book, regional maps-which include ferry routes-cover the whole of the Irish Isle, from Derry and Belfast in the north to the Dingle Peninsula and Cork in the south.
