Ballyvolane House
Castlelyons, Co. Cork

Ballyvolane is a country house in a lovely setting, surrounded by its own farmland, wooded grounds and formal, well-maintained gardens, which are open to the public. It was built in 1728 on the site of an older house and altered later to the Italianate style. When the Greens bought the house some 30 years ago, there was a lot of work to be done, and their own sitting room/kitchen is still the old drawing room.

Guests have a choice of 7 comfortable rooms, all with TV and hairdryers, and there is one on the ground floor suitable for wheelchairs. The house has been elegantly furnished and decorated, and there is both a drawing room and large sitting area. There is also a piano in the hall. Dinner is provided by arrangement, sometimes also for non-residents, and served either at the large dining room table, or at small tables for those who prefer eating on their own. One of the bathrooms contains a wonderful old bathtub, encased in wood and raised on 2 steps.

There is a croquet lawn, horse-riding nearby, and lovely walks. Salmon fishing is also available. There is a wine licence and French is also spoken. The house is signposted from Castlelyons. No pets.
