Belcamp Hutchinson

This superb, ivy-clad Georgian house is hidden away down a narrow lane off the main Malahide road. It is named after Francis Hely-Hutchinson, third Earl of Donoughmore. The house has been renovated with he utmost care, preserving its features and elegance, whilst introducing the best of twentieth century comforts. It stands in seven hectares of fields and gardens, including a walled garden and a maze. The house is superbly furnished and extremely comfortable, and has an easygoing, relaxed atmosphere.

Each spacious bedroom has been decorated with a different colour scheme and has a hairdryer, TV, telephone, and tea and coffee making facilities. Copious breakfasts, are served at the enormous table in the elegant dining room, and the large, long drawing room has an honesty bar. The owners are very proud of the latest addition - a downstairs loo (which had some plumbing problems to overcome).

The attractive little seaside village of Malahide is close by, Dublin can easily be reached by bus, and it is only a few minutes drive to the airport. Belcamp Hutchinson is a peaceful and relaxing place to stay, on arrival or departure from Ireland, or as a base for visiting Dublin.

Neither pets nor smoking are allowed in the dining room. Visa, Access, Mastercard accepted.

Maybe you'll stay in the place described as a pre-Famine wisteria-covered farmhouse -one of several overnight options in Westport, County Mayo. Or maybe you'll opt for the large Georgian mansion just beyond an iron gateway in Ballymote, County Sligo. Maybe you'll stay in one of the other 400 or so accommodations in this revised and expanded version of the book (Bed and Breakfast Ireland) that first hit the United States in 1991. Only an occasional line drawing interrupts the text; and in the back of the 319 page book, regional maps-which include ferry routes-cover the whole of the Irish Isle, from Derry and Belfast in the north to the Dingle Peninsula and Cork in the south.
