This elegant Georgian country house stands in its own grounds and is approached by a tree and shrub-lined private drive. It has a warm and friendly atmosphere and is beautifully furnished with antiques. The large, comfortable en suite bedrooms overlook the lovely green countryside and have hairdryers and tea and coffee making facilities, and some have TVs and trouser presses. The spacious drawing room, with the original wallpaper and service bells, has a TV, grand piano and open fireplace.
Evening meals, if booked in advance, are served in the atmospheric dining room, and are tastefully prepared with homegrown produce. There is a tennis court for guests' use, and local amenities include golf, racing, fishing and flying at the Kilkenny Air Club. There are a wide range of archeological and historical attractions, and Blanchville is at the centre of a Craft Trail incorporating five prominent studio workshops in County Kilkenny. Kennels are available for pets, and smoking is permitted in the drawing room.

To reach the house take the N10 Carlow/Dublin road from Kilkenny. First right 1 km after the Pike Pub, left at next cross-roads, entrance 2 km on the left. All major credit cards accepted.

Maybe you'll stay in the place described as a pre-Famine wisteria-covered farmhouse -one of several overnight options in Westport, County Mayo. Or maybe you'll opt for the large Georgian mansion just beyond an iron gateway in Ballymote, County Sligo. Maybe you'll stay in one of the other 400 or so accommodations in this revised and expanded version of the book (Bed and Breakfast Ireland) that first hit the United States in 1991. Only an occasional line drawing interrupts the text; and in the back of the 319 page book, regional maps-which include ferry routes-cover the whole of the Irish Isle, from Derry and Belfast in the north to the Dingle Peninsula and Cork in the south.
