Canal View is an attractive, modern dormer bungalow in a peaceful position backing onto the Grand Canal. One can fish from the back garden for bream, rudd, tench and perch, and angling maps are available. Guests can walk along the canal bank and watch the cruisers pass by, or take a ten-minute stroll to the ancient Rahan Church. A patio and picnic and play area is available for guests. A sauna, steamroom, Jacuzzi and pedal- and rowing-boats are all available to guests at no extra cost. Breakfast and evening meals are served in the pretty dining room, which overlooks the canal. The bedrooms, all of which are en-suite, are spotlessly clean and tastefully decorated with matching fabrics and wallpapers. All have Tvs, radios, tea-making facilities and hairdryers. Canal View offers extremely high standards, and guests are assured of a warm welcome and attention to detail in this pleasant house. Complimentary snack tray on arrival.

Maybe you'll stay in the place described as a pre-Famine wisteria-covered farmhouse -one of several overnight options in Westport, County Mayo. Or maybe you'll opt for the large Georgian mansion just beyond an iron gateway in Ballymote, County Sligo. Maybe you'll stay in one of the other 400 or so accommodations in this revised and expanded version of the book (Bed and Breakfast Ireland) that first hit the United States in 1991. Only an occasional line drawing interrupts the text; and in the back of the 319 page book, regional maps-which include ferry routes-cover the whole of the Irish Isle, from Derry and Belfast in the north to the Dingle Peninsula and Cork in the south.
