Castletown House Donaghmore, County Laois Castletown House has been awarded for the third time the prestigious Agri-Tourism Provincial Award. This warm and welcoming nineteenth-century farmhouse stands in scenic countryside surrounding an 80-hectare beef and sheep farm, on which the ruins of a Norman castle remain. It is approached via a private drive through open fields full of grazing sheep. The house continues to improve, upgrading is ongoing, it is spotlessly clean and there is a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere. This must be one of the best value accommodations in Ireland; the bedrooms are all a good size, and there are several pieces of antique furniture. Fresh farmhouse breakfasts and pre-arranged light evening meals are served in the dining room, which has a marble fireplace; there is also a sitting room with TV and information on what to see and do in the area. Guests enjoy gathering in the family kitchen for a cup of tea and a chat with the friendly owners. A conservatory games room is available to guests and there is an open farm on the property with star billing going to the three donkeys Mollie, Donna and Wilkie. Access, Mastercard, Eurocard, J.C.B. accepted. OWNER Moira Phelan ROOMS 2 double, 1 family, 1 triple/twin; all en suite
