Derry East is a working beef-suckling farm, situated 1 mile from Sneem on the Ring of Kerry road on the Waterille side. This is a botanist's paradise, with its wild mountain landscape background. Derry East has its own hard tennis court, a private fish pond stocked with trout, and farm walks, and guests are welcome to use these facilities. The bedrooms are warm and comfortable, and there is a bright, colourful dining room. Turf fires glow brightly on chilly days. Evening meals are available, and feature home-grown vegetables, with vegetarian and special diets catered for. An ideal spot for a quiet and relaxing holiday. Mrs Teahan is a caring and considerate host offering guests a truly warm welcome, and is ably assisted during the summer holidays by her children, who are happy to play Irish music for guests. No pets. No smoking in the dining room. One mile from Sneem, on the Waterille side, on the N70.

Maybe you'll stay in the place described as a pre-Famine wisteria-covered farmhouse -one of several overnight options in Westport, County Mayo. Or maybe you'll opt for the large Georgian mansion just beyond an iron gateway in Ballymote, County Sligo. Maybe you'll stay in one of the other 400 or so accommodations in this revised and expanded version of the book (Bed and Breakfast Ireland) that first hit the United States in 1991. Only an occasional line drawing interrupts the text; and in the back of the 319 page book, regional maps-which include ferry routes-cover the whole of the Irish Isle, from Derry and Belfast in the north to the Dingle Peninsula and Cork in the south.
