Castlefinn, Co. Donegal

Gortfad has been the home of the Taylor family for 7 generations. The house has been built onto and adapted over the years, though the front is mainly Victorian and Edwardian. Gortfad is furnished with old-fashioned possessions and stained glass windows, and is set in peaceful grounds. The rooms are large, and there is a comfortable sitting room with a log fire. Mrs Taylor is a hospitable, kind old lady who has been offering her special welcome for over 27 years - little wonder that she has guests returning year after year. Home-baking, delicious scones and fruit cake are often offered with tea on arrival, at no extra charge. Evening meals are available only if prearranged, and there are several good eating establishments in the area. Guests can visit the tweed weaving area of Glenties and the 10,000 hectares of the National Park at Glenveagh Castle, as well as Derek Hill's remarkable art collection at Church Hill. There are 2 golf courses within 6 miles (9km) and salmon, trout and coarse fishing are available in the River Finn. Lifford is 5 miles (7km) away and Donegal town only 25 miles (37km). Dogs by arrangement. Located on the north side of Castlefinn, signposted off the N15.
