Lorum Old Rectory Bagenalstown, County Carlow Dating from the eighteenth century, Lorum Old Rectory is set in 7.5 hectares nestling beneath the Blackstairs Mountains. It is surrounded by open countryside, with views as far as Tipperary. There are plenty of animals about, including goats, horses, dogs, a peacock and Jacob sheep. The bedrooms are spacious, furnished with antiques, and all have their original fireplaces, hairdryers, telephones and tea and coffee making facilities. Five-course imaginative dinners are available, by prior arrangement, with home-grown organic vegetables. The tiny smoking room with a fireplace is the only room where smoking is allowed. There is a comfortable, informal atmosphere, and Don and Bobbie Smith are a friendly couple. Don likes to organise cycling holidays, which include cycle hire, airport pickup and daily baggage transportation. Work has been carried out on the garden recently and guests have use of a croquet lawn. No pets. The Old Rectory is 6.5 km from Bagenalstown on the Borris Road, the R705.
