Family-run (third-generation) this spotless, nautical pub is literally a prizewinner, having repeatedly won Ireland's National Bar Food competition. The seafood is delicious - any fresher and it would be swimming. You can enjoy your food at the bar, or visit the restaurant in the back.

If you have sampled both cuisine and liquid hospitality, you might like to stay overnight in one of Aherne's guestrooms. The beds are so big that they "Could sleep an entire band", as a friend put it. Guests are truly made to feel welcome.
