Crosh, County Tyrone
Scarcely 1/2 mile east of the Glenknock dolmen, in the adjoining townland of Crosh, is another dolmen splendidly situated on a grassy eminence behind a farm on Carnargan road, 1 1/2 miles north-east of Newtownstewart. Like its neighbour in Glenknock it is partly collapsed.
Even so, this is a spectacular megalith on account of the colossal portal stones, 8 feet tall, flanking a doorstone rising to half their height. On present evidence the chamber, 15 feet long externally and oriented towards east, appears to have been covered by three capstones, all displaced. Only one sidestone survives and the backstone is missing. Erosion at the base of the north portal has exposed a packing stone which is in danger of giving way under pressure from the slipped capstone. Remains of the cairn can be seen around the chamber.
Access to the monument, formerly by a short laneway directly opposite the junction of Carnargan and Crosh roads, is now blocked by a barbed-wire fence, and permission to approach it through the farmyard should be sought at the house.
