Tyrone Heritage Centres
Four centres in County Tyrone each have their own not inconsiderable points of interest. In Strabane, Gray's Printing Press shows how the old hot metal printing worked, with examples of presses and hand set type. The Castlederg Visitors Centre has a video wall, used to narrate ten stories about the social history and culture of this part of the county. Also on display is a carriage from the Castlederg tramway, which opened in 1884 and was closed after a strike in 1933. The Newtownstewart Gateway centre and museum includes the Dunbar collection of Victoriana, militaria, old toys, packaging and photographic equipment. The centre also has a reconstruction of a traditional farm house kitchen, complete with half-door. Finally, the Sperrin Heritage Centre tells the story of gold in the Sperrin mountains and has an audio-visual presentation. Craft shop, tearoom.
