Ulster History Park
This 14 hectare (35 acre) site, opened in 1990, tells the story of the settlement of Ireland, from the time of the first known settlers, around 8000 BC, to the Plantation period of the 17th century. Based on extensive archaeological and historical research, the park consists of full scale models of dwelling places and monuments. The Mesolithic camp reconstruction represents the earliest settlement, the huts being based on evidence from excavations at Mount Sandal, near Coleraine. Dwellings in the park range from the raths, circular-shaped houses with thatched roofs from the early Christian era, to a reconstructed Plantation settlement built after the conquest of Gaelic Irish Ulster in the early 17th century.
