Used in memory of St Bernadette (1844-79), the visionary at Lourdes, it is a popular name in Ireland, but at present it is declining.
Berneen (f) An Irish diminutive feminine form of Bernard.
It has the characteristic Irish diminutive suffix -een, representing Gaelic -in.
