Ethna [Eithne] (f) A feminine form of Aidan
Annie was used to anglicise it - which at one time resulted in Annie being extremely popular, much more so than Ann(e). Annie is less popular now than it was at the turn of the century; but Eithne/Ethna has been revived in modern times. Ena and Etney are variants.
