Irish First Names
Ossian[Oisín] (m) 'fawn'
The name of the son of the legendary hero, Finn MacCool, whose mother was said to have spent part of her
existence as a deer. Ossian was supposed to have lived for a time in the Land of Promise. The Scottish writer, Macpherson, described her adventures in his Ossianic poems (1765) where the deeds of the Fianna are set entirely in Scotland.
