![]() THE BELFAST NEWSLETTER THURSDAY , JUNE 1, 1911 At the Queen's Island yesterday the Titanic, one of the two largest vessels in the world, was successfully launched, in the presence of many thousands of spectators. The construction of this great ship is another triumph for Messrs. Harland & Wolff, and a fresh proof of the high place occupied by Belfast as a shipbuilding centre. The recognition can hardly be increased but the launch of two such ships as the Titanic and the Olympic within less than eight months of each other is a magnificent achievement even for it. It is gratifying to learn that the tests of the Olympic have been successful and as the Titanic is practically the same in size, design and equipment, there is no fear that either the owners or the builders will be disappointed with her when she is completed. Great interest was taken by the citizens in the launch, and large crowds paid for admission to the Albert Quay from which a good view could be obtained, the proceeds going to the Children's Hospital, Queen Street, and the Ulster Hospital for Children and Women. It will be seen from our report that all the arrangements were perfect, no delay or hitch of any kind occurring. Messrs. Harland & Wolff are to be congratulated on their latest feat in shipbuilding and the White Star Line on presentation of two such splendid vessels as the Olympic and the Titanic. < < < Wednesday's News Letter report
