Seaside Pansy

Viola tricolor subsp. curtisii

Seaside Pansy is a very small perennial, a subspecies of tricolour Pansy. The flowers are bright yellow or violet, or sometimes combination of the two. The stems and leaves are thin and delicate.
It grows in attractive groups on dunes round the coast of Ireland, and is also occasionally found on lake shores, specifically by Lough Erne, Castlewellan Lake and Lough Neagh.
The flowers open in late April and bloom for several months afterwards.
Seaside Pansy grows round the coast of Britain and on the shores of the Baltic.
