Kidney Saxifrage
Saxifraga hirsuta
Kidney Saxifrage is a small perennial related to London Pride. The loosely clustered flowers are white or a very pale pink. The leaves are hairy and a handsome kidney shape; they are scalloped, bright green and grow on long stalks.
The plant is not widespread and is found in rocky, damp shade and by mountain streams, always in Cork and Kerry. The Killarney woods are good hunting grounds.
The flowers bloom from May to July.
Kidney Saxifrage is not found in Britain but is native in the Pyrenees and northern Spain.
