Kidney Vetch
Anthyllis vulneraria

Kidney Vetch, or Lady's Fingers, is a medium-sized perennial. The flowers are usually yellow but near the sea they are sometimes white, crimson or purple; the flower heads often grow in pairs. The leaves are narrow and pinnate. The whole plant is slightly downy.
Kidney Vetch grows near rocks and on dry pastures, especially near the coast. The name vulneraria was given to show that wounds were sometimes treated with this plant.
Flowering time is from June to August.
Kidney Vetch grows on sandy soils and near the sea in Britain. It spreads through Europe to the Caucasus and grows in North Africa.

Other 'Early Summer' flowers include:
Hawthorn | Hoary Rockrose | Kerry Lily | Kidney Saxifrage | London Pride | Marsh Pea | Milkwort | Mountain Avens | Ox-Eye Daisy | Ragged Robin | Rose Campion
