Meadow Vetchling
Lathyrus pratensis
Pis bhuidhe
Meadow Vetchling, or Yellow Pea, is a clambering perennial of the Pea family. The bright yellow flowers grow in a loose cluster, or spike. The leaflets are narrow and grow with a branched tendril between them. It is common in damp meadows and ditches all over Ireland. The plant must not be confused with Bird's-foot Trefoil (Lotus corniculatus); the leaflets of Meadow Vetchling are much narrower. It has slight similarities with the Everlasting Pea of gardens. The flowers bloom from June to September.
Meadow Vetchling is found in much of Northern Europe, Siberia, the Himalayas and Ethiopia.
