Frequently Asked Questions
Are the night sounds real?
No - they are simulations, a good attempt to reconstruct the sounds heard by staff - a well-intentioned effort to make the site more interesting to our readers. Several visitors have commented that they do not sound like the footsteps of a young girl. We must emphasise that we are simply trying to give a good impression of what the staff experienced - these are not actual recordings of a ghost. Those who heard the original sounds say that the simulations are quite close.

What about the moving doors?
As for the moving doors, this is just an even lower tech simulation. We arranged for the actual doors to be photographed while being opened using string. Paul, who saw the original happen, says the re-creation is close to being exact.

How many live cams are there?
We have to confess to being guilty of causing some confusion in relation to this. The text on our site contained some ambiguous references which might have been interpreted as implying there was more than one camera. We have now corrected this and can state that there is just one, in a room with a printing press - the room is not often used and the machine is obsolete. It is no longer used and not connected to an electrical supply. This is a fairly small area of the plant but is pressed into use from time to time as seasonal work requires. As regular visitors will be aware we move the camera around occasionally. We also upgraded the quality of the equipment and offer a better refresh rate and higher resolution - see below for more information.

Is the panorama a live video?
No. It is a 360 degree view of a former spinning room using technology known as 'Live Picture' thus giving the misleading impression that the view is live. Furthermore the term 'spinning room' refers to the process previously carried out there, not to the fact that the room appears to revolve. We should also point out although it appears that the camera is revolving or that the room is turning, neither of these is actually happening. The visitor is able to view a still panoramic photograph of the room taken at one moment in time. The facility is available to 'pan' around the photograph and 'zoom' in an out. It also gives the impression that the visitor can control the camera, but this is not the case. The fact that it is a still photo also explains an oft-passed remark that 'the sun always appears to shine in Ireland, even day and night.'
