Frequently Asked Questions

Why don't you install an infra red camera, motion detectors, heat sensors, microphones etc.?
Hey guys, give us a break! Or send us a cheque for £60,000. For more on this see the question below about the camera. [ back to index ]

Why don't you show the time in Ireland on the webcam?
We have tried to do it but the technology defeats us, however we have managed it elsewhere. We have not been able to get this feature to function properly but have not given up trying. We hope to introduce this feature soon. [ back to index ]

Why don't you put a clock in the room?
A large clock with roman numerals hung in the room for many years, on the wall just out of view to the left of where the webcam is now. It had to be wound every couple of days and this task fell to the bindery manager, David Hannum. On 14 June 1992 Dave left work early complaining of indigestion. Within two days he had died quietly in his sleep at home. He had worked as a printer for almost 50 years, having joined the firm as an apprentice in 1943. It is popularly held that the clock stopped at the hour of his death, and could not be made to work again. [ back to index ]

Is there a rational explanation for this?
We suspect that the story about the clock stopping at the exact time is just a modern myth. If the clock had to be wound every couple of days it would probably have stopped anyway. As it was rather old it may well have been damaged by over winding by whoever tried to re-start it. Or perhaps it just needed Dave's special touch! [ back to index ]
